Celebrating the spirit of India

India shining
Looking for ways to celebrate Independence Day? Here is a list of some unique ways to celebrate the spirit of freedom

Come August 15th and the nation wakes up to yet another Independence Day. A day to remember the freedom struggle and pay tribute to the countless freedom fighters and faceless heroes, who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our nation. A day to celebrate the Indian in you. Here are some great ways to celebrate Independence Day.

Deck up your home
Decorate your living room with a few throw pillows and cushions in green, white and orange colour. Place a few plants in the room to add the green effect. Bed sheets in shades of tricolour also liven up the bed room. Place the Indian flag or tricoloured candles as a centre piece on the dining table or living room. Make simple changes to the decors of your home and give it a patriotic feel.

Don your patriotic attire
A unique theme such as Independence Day is the right opportunity to mix and match colours. Play with more than a single colour and choose to wear dresses in saffron, white and green. Keep it simple by wearing a chic white kurtha or kurthi with a pair of jeans. And team it with a multi-coloured stole or dupatta. Keep accessories to the minimum.

Plan outdoor activities
If you are the outdoor person, plan a craft workshop for kids on I-day. Make use of this opportunity to teach kids about India’s historical facts and its freedom fighters. Interesting workshops like face painting, flag-making, nail art and tri-colour pinwheel-making can also be arranged.

Host an I-Day party
Independence Day is all about celebrations and what better than to throwing a party for friends and family. Plan a fun-filled evening with traditional food and soulful patriotic music. Make it a themed party with the dress code as tri-colour. Hold a quiz on India and its freedom struggle to add fun to the party.

However, Independence Day means much more than attending flag-hoisting ceremonies, singing patriotic songs and watching parades on the television. Let us not reduce this day to just another laid back holiday. Try these simple tips and make it a truly meaningful day.
