Come Onam and festivities are high in the air. With the festive season on, there is never a dearth for colours when it comes to decking your homes. This is the right time to add a dash of colour to your home and brighten the spirits. Here are some tips to enliven your home.

          A beautiful painting, a stylish chair in a corner, a perky wall clock, a luxurious carpet or a bright rug on the floor can do wonders to an ordinary home. These products have a unique way of adding life and colour to any dull room. “When it comes to home decors, attractive bright paintings and art work, terracotta garden products will never go out of fashion,” says Akash K Sajith, co-founder and CEO, Signs of Life.

Experimenting with Cushions
Cushion has become an essential home décor today. A vibrant cushion can transform an entire room's decor and deliver a bold colour statement. Solid coloured cushions can never go out of fashion. The brighter the shades the better. “Bright vibrant colours and textured patterns on the cloth are very trendy,” says Vinita Hari Govind, partner, Knotnstitch.

Experiment with different shapes and pattern of cushions. Bringing in cushions and pillows in different shapes like oval, round, even triangular, make a great addition to your interior decor. “Cushions that have a very rich feel with fabrics that exude style and elegance, floral designs and traditional embroidery combined with a contemporary look too are very popular today,” adds Govind. However, one must remember not to over-do with too many colours on an already bright coloured sofa.

Curtains all the way
No home décor is complete without curtains or blinds. The idea is to keep it simple and easy to use. “Dark bright colours in islet models are most moving item in curtains,” shares Benny Thomas, managing partner, Cherkottu Furnishings. Brightly coloured curtains can do wonders to enliven any dull room. Add pattern, style and texture with curtains that reciprocate the beauty of each room. 

Go green
Greenery always adds a breath of fresh air to a home. Interior plants can make a world of difference to a room. Bring in plants that are easy to manage. Shrubs, bonsai plants and medicinal plants like thulsi, mint, coriander, etc., are useful as well as visually appealing. Place a palm or fern in the corners or between furniture to bring in the desired effect. Even artificial plants available today look so good that it is hard to distinguish them from the real ones. Make space for fresh flowers. A flower arrangement would also help in creating a cheerful environment around the house.

Apart from these, colourful tableware, table runners, coasters, bright coloured best sheets also bring life to the festive season. Attach some wind chimes at the entrance of the house or balcony to let positive energy enter your home. Add a pop of colour into your home with these decor ideas.
