Décor decoded

From modular kitchen boutiques to designer furniture and decorative pieces, the retail market today is set to woo its customers with everything you need to transform your house into a fabulous home

Homes are a reflection of one’s own self as it reflects the taste, style and personality of its owner. Adding the finishing touches to the interiors of a home can be quite daunting. Design and aesthetics, therefore, play a key role in the décor of a home.

Interestingly, technology integration in home furniture is a trend today and is seen to be moving in good volumes. A good example of this is the trend in modular kitchens. Godrej Interio offers two kinds of kitchens: traditional wooden kitchen and steel kitchens, both of which are distinctly different. “A combination of steel frame with wooden shutters is more in demand. The coolness of steel keeps insects away and the wooden shutters gives the convenience of building in customized aesthetics,” explains Bedraj Tripathy, senior general manager - Marketing, Godrej Interio.

Traditionally, Indian homes look for functionality. Hence, today we see a combination of functionality and aesthetics that are playing a key role, and products which have the combination of these, move faster. “Each of these kitchens are designed for Indians. Ergonomics based on Indian anthropometric data also plays a large role in our designs. We also offer exclusive designer kitchens which do move but at a slower pace,” adds Tripathy.

Paintings alone can serve up a lively décor and make a wonderful statement. Sreekala Nair, a homemaker, who bought a digital painting recently to deck up her new flat, opines that a beautiful painting makes an excellent backdrop to a room. It captures the natural beauty and enhances the completeness of your living décor.

It is a different story when it comes to furniture. Designer furniture is the in thing today. “Recliner sofa sets and cots with inbuilt storage are the most moving items these days, as people are looking for comfort with simplicity,” says the manager of a popular furniture brand in the city.

If your room is decoratively challenged, make use of these decorative items and add life to your interiors. It will definitely change the drab look and brighten your home as well as your moods.
